Many teachers have asked about my Homeworkopoly board because it is
different from the one you can get on
www.homeworkopoly.com.
Side note: I found this website from another great website - http://www.atozteacherstuff.com. Click on "Discuss" and there is a ton of teachers willing to share ideas and give you feedback. If you haven't checked it out, I strongly suggest you do. You'll be happy you did. :-) Basically what I
did was recreate the original monopoly board. I used two pieces of
poster board and measured out all the properties. and colored them in
according to the real board. Where the regular
properties are - I made up names like Spelling Blvd. or Freedom Avenue.
If the kids land on these they can purchase the property just like in
real Monopoly using class cash. If another student lands on a
property that is owned by another student, they need to pay that student
"rent". Additionally, students will be able to purchase and trade
properties if they wish to get a Monopoly. All regular Monopoly
rules will be in effect. Last year was my first time using it and the biggest problem was finding the time to play. This year I am going to make it part of our schedule on Friday. The kids will get to roll up to two times depending on if they turned in all their homework by Friday from the previous week and Wednesday of the current week. I have one student who keeps a notebook and writes down what each student lands on. That way if their token gets moved accidentally we know where it goes. I put my Homeworkopoly Board on the blackboard and used small magnets with numbers on them as the tokens. It worked perfectly. |
